AHANA Resources

The Career Center offers a variety of resources and tools specifically for students of AHANA (African-American, Hispanic, Asian, or Native American) heritage to help prepare these students to be career-ready and to navigate the workplace.

Students identifying as AHANA may encounter unique challenges in the workplace, such as not seeing people that look like them in leadership positions, finding a lack of understanding of their cultural background, or facing racial or cultural stereotypes. Because these issues may occur in the workplace, we encourage you to research the companies for which you would like to work and evaluate their commitment to diversity and inclusion. We hope the resources provided below will help you with that search. Please contact the AHANA coach at the Career Center for details.


A variety of resources are available to support AHANA students as they search for jobs and advance their careers. | This particular link provides a comprehensive list of scholarship opportunities.

Diversity Inc. | This website has jobs postings and allows students to upload their resumes. It also has articles about diversity and workplace issues.

National Urban League Employment Network | This website provides job listings and career advice, and allows students to post their resumes.

Nemnet Diversity Recruitment | This is a national website that helps connect minority students with careers in education.

The Consortium | “We connect people, institutions and companies that have shown a commitment to our mission, and we position them for even greater success. Specifically, we foster a network of the country’s best students, leading MBA programs and corporate partners, including Fortune 500 companies.”

The Career Center holds a Diversity & Student Leadership Reception every fall semester to which all students who identify as AHANA will receive an invitation. At the reception, students will get a chance to meet one-on-one with recruiters who are looking for a diverse candidate pool.


There are many sites that feature programs and opportunities for AHANA students, such as:

  • INROADS – internships in business and industries research
  • BRAG – internships in retail fashion and related fields
  • MAIP – fellowships at advertising and fellowship agencies
  • SEO – professional development and internships in a wide variety of interest areas and fields
  • T.Howard Foundation – internships in media and entertainment


Research the employer's website and look for key indicators, like:

  • A statement of their commitment to diversity.
  • Goals and programs aimed at fostering an inclusive culture.
  • A statement about their commitment to their non-discrimination policies.
  • Departments or social networks aimed at supporting employees of color.
  • Diversity rankings of employers by Forbes and Diveristy Inc. among other accredited websites.
  • Recruitment efforts in cultural diversity publications or events.
  • Membership in professional organizations for people of color.
  • Racial and Ethnic diversity amongst the senior management and Board of Directors. 

Ask current employees of color at the company about the work environment. You can ask:

  • What is it like to work at this company?
  • How would you describe the organization’s culture?
  • What type of professional growth have you experienced at your company?
