Leadershape Institute

The LeaderShape Institute is a national organization that has been established for over 30 years across various college campuses. LeaderShape began at Boston College in 2013, accepting up to 50 students each year for a six-day experience to explore what makes you a leader, equip you with the tools to achieve your full leadership potential, and aid you in sustaining your leadership vision for the future.

The LeaderShape experience features six extensive days of community building and personal leadership training, each day is designed to target a specific area of development:

Day One:  "Building Community"

Day Two:  "The Value of One, the Power of All"

Day Three:  "Challenging What Is, Looking to What Could Be"

Day Four:  "Bringing Vision to Reality"

Day Five:  "Living and Leading with Integrity"

Day Six:  "Staying in Action"

What is LeaderShape?

LeaderShape is a six-day retreat that challenges participants to lead with integrity while working towards a vision grounded in their deepest values. Participants explore what they want to do and who they want to be.

Who is LeaderShape for?

Students who are committed to taking their leadership to the next level and who want to make a significant impact on campus, in their communities, and in the world.

How is LeaderShape different from other retreats at BC?

While the involvement of the individual is honored and expected, everything during LeaderShape is approached with a sense of community. Everyone is viewed as a learner and as a teacher. This belief is evident as the community is created through the contributions of everyone at the Institute, with time spent in meaningful conversation serving as its foundation. Unlike other retreats, participants don’t only leave the six days with a few tips and ideas. Graduates of LeaderShape experience a breakthrough in their leadership capacity.

What will we do on this retreat?

The six days are centered on four themes: community, inclusivity, integrity, and vision. Therefore the work that you do during the six days is tied, in some way, to these concepts. You will participate in large group activities, in small group exercises, in conversation with one another, and in personal reflection. You will discover your most deeply held values and greatest passions and how they can come together to give your life and work purpose. You will also reflect on how your personal styles and life experiences influence your leadership and your relationships.

Why six days?

Six days is a lot of time to give – we ask that time of participants because we see such value in the extended time together. Six days allows you to remove yourself from the day-to-day demands of life and focus more intently on discovering who we want to be. It gives you the chance to embrace the opportunity to share your authentic self. Six days for a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Six days to make the experience your own.
